Actinophryseatsalga.jpg (9455 bytes)  Actinophryseatsalgae.jpg (8009 bytes)  Actinophrysconjugation.jpg (5589 bytes)
We're having a fascination with Actinophrys.
Two photos show the protozoan eating a filamentous green alga.  The third photo appears to show conjugation.
rotiferegg.jpg (5292 bytes)  rotiferhatching.jpg (3654 bytes)
We think the first photo shows a rotifer egg,
and the second is a rotifer egg hatching.
In the second view the organism was
squirming around inside the cover.
amoebaforma.jpg (5927 bytes)  amoebaformb.jpg (4651 bytes)
These Amoeba have been eating algae.
The food vacuoles appear green.
amoebasol.jpg (2680 bytes)  amoebasol2.jpg (3920 bytes)
Amoeba look clear just beneath the
plasma membrane when they are
actively streaming along.
amoebae.jpg (17392 bytes)  amoebaf.jpg (4220 bytes)  amoebag.jpg (3897 bytes)  amoebah.jpg (3500 bytes)
One Amoeba changes its shape during a period of several minutes.
amoebaseriesa.jpg (4448 bytes)  amoebaseriesb.jpg (5653 bytes)  amoebaseriesc.jpg (5039 bytes)  amoebaseriesd.jpg (5307 bytes)  amoebaseriese.jpg (5158 bytes)
This Amoeba was on a mission.  The photos were taken 10 seconds apart, so the series spanned 40 seconds.
